Savannah Faith In Action
This site was designed as an educational component of the Savannah Community Memory Project's 2024 residency titled "Faith In Action: Perspectives on Savannah's Interfaith Community." It is available to the general public, but designed specifically for 8th Grade students of history in the state of Georgia.
In 2023, the City of Savannah Municipal Archives invited proposals for a creative project spotlighting an underrepresented community. Applicants were encouraged to select communities defined by criteria that extended beyond traditional neighborhood boundaries. The call specified a year-long residency for the selected proposal in 2024. This website is the result of a key component of the chosen project team's proposal, "Faith in Action: Perspectives on Savannah’s Interfaith Community."
The site makes use of the SimpleQuiz component for multiple choice quizzes, EngageBox for external link notices, JCH Optimize Pro for SEO, SmilePack for our FAQ, and Akeeba Admin Tools Pro for security. Other functionality is provided by the Gantry framework and Joomla itself for content categorization and navigation. Video sections are embedded from the Vimeo platform.
The main UX mandate was that 8th-grade students could navigate the site intuitively and understand its content. As a teaching tool, teachers needed to be able to gather quiz results easily from students. The web designer chose to simplify the layout and reduce the variety of design elements to help indicate the way pages should be viewed.
