The Shotokan Magazine website is a custom-built platform tailored to meet the needs of the global Shotokan Karate community.

Currently, it is built on Joomla 5 with the J2 Commerce extension to facilitate the promotion and sale of both digital and print versions of the magazine. The site employs the Joomshaper Helix Ultimate Framework combined with SP Page Builder for a dynamic and responsive template system.

The site has evolved significantly since its inception in the early 1990s. Originally constructed using basic HTML and later enhanced with PHP, it transitioned through platforms like Mambo, Joomla 1.5, and Joomla 3 before arriving at its current iteration. This latest version, built entirely on Joomla 4/5, marks a major milestone as it is the first to offer digital subscriptions and access to over 150 back issues of the magazine.

A sophisticated Access Control List (ACL) system has been meticulously developed and implemented to provide a variety of access options. This system ensures seamless management of subscriptions, back-issue availability, and new releases, offering a tailored experience for different user needs.
